The Role
Mackenzie Investments is seeking a highly motivated Economist to join its Multi-Asset Strategies (MAS) team within the Investment Management department. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of original macroeconomic insights that inform the firm’s asset allocation decisions across global markets.

This role involves conducting macroeconomic research, maintaining and enhancing quantitative models, analyzing economic and financial data, and presenting findings to both internal and external stakeholders. The Economist will play a key role in shaping investment perspectives that span asset classes, geographies, and strategies.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with senior investment professionals and gain exposure to the decision-making process across a wide spectrum of asset classes.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth macroeconomic research across developed and emerging markets.
  • Forecast risks and returns across major asset classes, including equities, fixed income, currencies, commodities, and derivatives.
  • Analyze a wide array of economic indicators and financial market data.
  • Communicate macroeconomic insights through presentations to internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Develop and maintain analytical tools and models using programming languages (e.g., Python or R); automate processes for data analysis and visualization.
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Managers to support asset allocation decisions, report writing, and the development of client-facing materials.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and internal knowledge sharing to enhance the MAS team’s investment process.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Fluency in both English and French.
  • MA, MSc, or PhD in Economics, with a specialization in macroeconomics (experience in applied econometrics strongly preferred).
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in a macroeconomic or investment research role (e.g., asset manager, central bank, finance ministry, broker-dealer, research firm).
  • Deep understanding of macroeconomic theory and its application to financial markets.
  • Proven analytical and empirical research skills in macroeconomics and finance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (Python or R), along with strong command of Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality, accurate work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
  • Collaborative team player with a growth mindset.

Knowledge of French and English is required to support clients and Team members within and/ or outside the province of Quebec.
